The Medicinedogs are special in our family, and this sled dog bloodline line can be traced in our family back to 1906. Medicinedogs are athletic, medium sized, 27-60 lbs. village type dogs that are descended from old Reddington distance lines, mid-distance lines, and also sprint lines from Fort Yukon. Some of our lines in Eagle Alaska are bred into Andy Basich lines - and then Denali Park/Linwood Fielder lines. They also trace back to original coastal Eskimo dogs from Kotzebue, to Yukon River huskies and from the Porcupine area as well. To this mix was added the hunting western and eastern Laikas of Russia. We have sought to avoid any European breed ancestry in our dogs, and hope to keep them as true as possible to village dogs which are unfortunately extinct as a pure type or dog land race. Our dogs run distance, mid distance, as well as sprint. Congratulations to grandson Kes for winning the 2008 Junior North American Sled dog Race in the two dog class, and to Totem and Kenji too!
Our dogs are also used in a therapy project with local at risk kids and foster children. Kids seem to heal from traumatic situations more quickly and completely if dogs are involved They learn to care for and raise sled dogs, how to train and race, agility, and basic stuff. Its a wonderful thing to see.
